under the noonday sun

when the moon is full
don’t be surprised
at the life i’ve chosen

the path you’d go down
but it’s the one

fall upon my pale skin
and moonlight

if  i seem imperfect to you
even grotesque…..

there is a place
i used to go
to reflect
upon my shortcomings
in hopes of   learning how to be
a better me

in the winter
my soul shivered
shaking my thoughts loose
until they became meaningless as snowflakes

in the spring
wildflowers began to grow
between my thoughts
tickling all sense away

in the summer
the heat left  nothing
but vapor trails of  thoughts
behind my dazzled eyes

in the autumn
the trees pelted me with acorns
pummeling my thoughts
into a  jumbled mass of  confusion

i went again
and again
but never did  i  find
what  i was seeking

so instead,  this year
i am going to lean
into  your embrace
and see myself
through the reflection
in your eyes

she  knew

every  night  when  he  came  home

he’d  knock  her  around  then  pass  out

people  began to  notice  she  was  smiling  all  the  time

i actually wrote the second poem first,  using some prompts which do not appear in the top poem.  suddenly, i decided it did not have enough conflict to satisfy Mama Zen’s prompt at  ‘imaginary garden with real toads’  so i rewrote it above.  please don’t feel obligated to read both poems.
